PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION

  1. Try to use well-lighted and frequently used stops.
  2. Try to sit near the driver or conductor.
  3. Avoid sitting near exits. An attacker can reach in and grab a purse or jewelry as the bus pulls away.
  4. Be alert as to who gets off the bus with you. If you feel uncomfortable, walk directly to a place where there are other people.

IN ELEVATORS

  1. Look in the elevator before getting in.
  2. Stand near the controls.
  3. Get off if someone suspicious enters. If you’re worried about someone who is waiting for the elevator with you, pretend you forgot something and don’t get in.
  4. If you’re attacked, hit the alarm and as many floor buttons as possible.

HOME AND NEIGHBOURHOOD
  1. Good locks, simple precautions, neighbourhood awareness and common sense can help prevent most property crimes. For in-depth safety precautions please refer to relevant pages on this website.

ON THE STREET

  1. Walk in the middle of sidewalks; doorways and parked cars make good purse snatching hiding spots.
  2. Walk in well-lit portions of streets.
  3. Watch where you're going, and ahead by 30 or 40 yards.
  4. Walk with your head up and appear alert, even with an attitude. If you look like a quiet target, you could become one.

CHILDREN OUTDOORS

  1. No one should ever stop you on the street and ask if you want candy, money, tickets, or to see anything like pets. If they do, SCREAM AND RUN.
  2. Your most powerful weapon against a stranger is more powerful than any weapon that the stranger can carry. It's your VOICE.
  3. If anyone tells you to "Hurry and get into the car, your mom's in the hospital!" they are lying. SCREAM AND RUN.
  4. When you scream at someone in any emergency situation (not like the ones you scream at your siblings) you need to shriek as loud as you can.
  5. Sometimes adults think children are playing with each other when they hear screaming; so you must be careful to say something that most people wouldn't ordinarily hear you say. Your parents can help you with this easily.

ON A DATE...

  1. Never drink alcohol on your first date.
  2. Never leave your drink unattended, even for a second. That's all it takes for someone to slip you a date-rape drug. If you're not sure about what's in it, dump it out. The few ringgit you spend replacing the drink is definitely worth it.
  3. First dates should be public, preferably with friends. In case they guy needs to be dumped, you have an easier way out.
  4. Tell others about who you're dating and where you're going.
  5. Get to know his (or her) friends and family.
